Healthier You Expo

Explore dozens of local resources designed to help you live your healthiest life at the Healthier You Expo on Saturday, Sept. 12. More than three dozen community organizations, businesses and Samaritan Health Services departments will gather to offer wellness information, interactive activities and valuable resources during this free, family-friendly event.
The expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Samaritan Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St. in Newport. “Our community offers so many resources to support health and well-being, and the Healthier You Expo brings them together in one convenient location,” said Amy Conner, Samaritan health education specialist.
“Whether you’re looking for wellness tips, preventive care, healthy living ideas or community connections, you’ll find something valuable here. Plus, you can get your annual flu shot, sample nutritious foods and even have a chance to win a door prize.”
Attendees can take advantage of a variety of free health and wellness opportunities, including
blood pressure checks, basic vision screenings, balance assessments and guided relaxation
experiences. Children’s books and bike helmets will be provided, too, while supplies last.
SamCare Mobile Medicine will be at the event, offering flu shots for individuals ages 6 months
and older, with high-dose vaccine available for adults 65 and older. Most insurance plans will
cover the cost.
The expo’s trade-show-style format makes it easy to browse informational booths featuring
topics ranging from acupuncture and gardening, home medical supplies to parenting resources, and more.
Representatives from numerous Samaritan programs and services will also be on
hand, including the Cancer Resource Center, diabetes education, diagnostic imaging, hospice, Newport Family Medicine Rural Residency Program, Pacific Communities Hospital District Foundation, patient experience and engagement, SamFit, Samaritan Treatment & Recovery Services, Trauma Injury Prevent Program and Volunteer Services.
As part of the event, attendees are encouraged to bring unwanted eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones for recycling through the Newport Lions Club, helping support both sustainability and community service efforts.
