K-9 Zoe Assists In Drug Arrest

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, at around 8:53 pm members of the Newport Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a car occupied by 51-year old Norman F Casas for an ongoing narcotics investigation. Officers had received information that Casas was transporting a large quantity of narcotics inside of the car. Officers had also received information that he was selling narcotics out of a motel room at the Newport Bay Motel on Highway 101 in Newport. Newport Police Narcotics Detection K9 Zoe was alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the car.
Officers executed a search warrant on Casas’ motel room and the car. Officers located a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, over one-half pound, inside of the car. Officers also located drug use and sales paraphernalia, drug packaging materials, and digital scales.
Casas was arrested at the scene and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Unlawful manufacture of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Delivery Methamphetamine Unlawful Possession Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession Schedule II Controlled Substance (Fentanyl) The incident remains under investigation.
