On May 27th, the Waldport City council called an executive session to discuss or consider information that included written advice from the city attorney. After coming out of executive session, councilor Woodruff made a motion to approve a resolution to vacate the decision to expel the Mayor and dismiss the charges on charter rule 21g violation that the council approved on April 3rd. On May 7th Lambert filed a writ against the city. Judge Bachart approved language in the writ that included the immediate reinstatement of Lambert.
Due to the costs for the city to defend against Lambert’s challenge, the council decided to vacate their expulsion of the Mayor. This passed unanimously. Lambert was happy to have her position officially restored. "I ran my campaign on transparency and I look forward to again serving those who voted for me and those who didn't." She was present during the last city council meeting held May 22nd. There was concern about public outbursts, however the meeting went very smoothly. During public comment, which was very civil. Some questioned council policies while others praised the council and staff for their work.
City Manager Dann Cutter said the plan now is to move forward. He added that the decision to vacate was solely based on costs, and not wanting to burden the taxpayers with that. He praised Lambert for her conduct during the city council meeting. "I think Mayor Lambert did an excellent job despite it being a very stressful meeting for her and all of us." He added he was pleased that things were handled quietly and calmly and he is hoping that the city can return to a business-as-usual situation for Waldport.
