House Fire In Newport

At 12:08 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Newport Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house on fire on the 300 block of NW 59th St. in Newport. Upon arrival, fire units observed a heavy level of smoke coming from the building.

 

Fire crews initiated an exterior attack until a water supply could be established before fully extinguishing the fire. The fire was confined to the kitchen, however there was smoke damage throughout other areas of the home. One occupant suffered minor injuries and was transported Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for evaluation. One dog was rescued and taken to a local veterinarian with injuries. One occupant received emergency housing assistance from the Red Cross.

 

Newport Fire Department received mutual aid response from Depoe Bay Fire District, Toledo Fire Department, Siletz Valley Fire District & Seal Rock Fire District. Pacific West Ambulance, the American Red Cross and Central Lincoln PUD provided assistance. Newport Fire Department responded with one fire engine, two chief officers and three firefighters.

 

The cause of the fire was determined to be flammable liquids making contact with a hot motor, igniting the vapors. Newport Fire Department would like to remind the public to be very careful handling flammable liquids and keep them away from ignition sources.
