The Lincoln County District Attorney’s office asked the court to revoke the release of Jacob E. Busch, on July 17th. He has been accused of assault on a local veteran who was part of a demonstration in Newport in June. Chief DDA Mr. Thornicroft told Judge Bachart that Mr. Busch has an extensive criminal history with over 20 arrests in Oregon and 2 in Washington. After the discovery of his criminal history, additional charges were added. Mr. Busch has been charged with assault in the 2nd degree a measure 11 crime, assault in the 4th degree and two counts of disorderly conduct with a bail set at $75,000. Mr. Busch was released from the Lincoln County Jail on July 3rd due to overcrowding in the jail.
Mr. Thornicroft asked that the court increase the amount of the security deposit and revoke the release. He said Mr. Busch was on post-prison supervision when he committed the assault against the victim. Mr. Busch reported he is staying at a VA medical facility in Portland. He attended the hearing by phone. Judge Bachart said he had not violated the terms of his release, had checked in with his lawyer, and made his court appearance. She denied the motion to revoke his release. She did add that Mr. Busch will need to check in weekly by phone with pre-trial services, keep his attorney informed of any changes, and can not leave the state. His next hearing is scheduled for August 25th.
